Day 5: Something to tickle your fancy
This was meant to be my 100th blog, but a last-minute post about today's Sonia Rykiel pour H&M launch stole the spot! Still, hitting triple figures of blog posts is a momentous occasion, so what better subject to dedicate to this landmark than my favourite jewellery designer: Alex Monroe.
How much do I love his work? Let me count the ways...
The exquisite detail
The quirky, cute pieces
The dainty, feminine style
The nature-inspired designs
The pretty themes for his collections
The fact that everything is all made by hand, right here in the UK
...I could go on, but you get the picture.
I thought I'd be decadent and go for a blow-the-budget buy for day 5 of my Advent calendar - it is Christmas after all. So, here's one for the wish lists: a beautifully intricate gold-plated silver ring from Alex Monroe's latest collection, The Peacock and the Crow, which has just launched exclusively at Liberty in London. It may be £180 but it's definitely a showstopper (rather like peacocks themselves).
Don't worry if you can't afford this particular peacock-feather ring though because, as promised, I've got details of the latest Pullens Yards open studios event and I'm sharing!
This weekend, Alex Monroe and his fellow south-east London creatives in Iliffe, Clements and Peacock Yards open up their doors, selling jewellery, ceramics, art, photography, fashion and more. I love wandering around the studios, seeing where people work and the origins of the pieces I buy, as well as meeting the designers themselves. The fact that they're kind enough to serve mince pies and mulled wine is a bonus! So, if you haven't started your Christmas shopping yet, get on down there.
Here's the all-important details: Pullens Yards open studios from 11am to 6pm this Saturday and Sunday at Iliffe Street and Crampton Street, London SE17 3LH. See you there!
