Grey jersey. It's my comfort fabric. I love it for the fact that it's understated, low-maintenance and quietly cool. And, colourwise, it's not so harsh as black, yet stylish all the same.
Its appeal is far-reaching in my wardrobe, from the charcoal draped-jersey dress by Sophia Kokosalaki for Topshop to the lighter-toned jersey Roxanne bag by Mulberry for Gap, through to a mid-grey Eros by Erotokritos dress (you see, even the designers can't resist the appeal of grey jersey).
I like the ease of wear that jersey offers. Its gentle, fluid fabric delineates softness as opposed to crisp, starchy stiffness (read: little ironing required!). And it's at once both weighty and lightweight, making it perfect for days when the weather can't make up its mind.
No wonder this H&M skirt at £12.99 was an instant buy for me. It's bubble hem is soft rather than voluminous, and its sombre grey is understated yet chic. I don't much mind that the black elasticated waistband creates a two-tone look, either. But, as it cinches in the waist, make sure you keep it simple and fitted on top - a plain Lycra vest in black or white is spot on.
