Day 18: The cat's whiskers
I'm a magpie for charms and trinkets. And I love it when something old is given a new lease of life. Enter jewellery designer Rachel Essex. She turns vintage buttons and charms, from the 1940s through to the 1980s, into quirky but cute pieces of jewellery. And the great thing is, each piece is either limited edition or unique.
Take this necklace. It comprises rare and individual components (from bakelite dice to ceramic and mother-of-pearl buttons), so no two necklaces are ever the same. Stocked in Anthropologie earlier this year, as a Christmas special Rachel Essex is selling it on her website for £30. So, not only do you get it for less than the Anthropologie price, it's one of a kind, too.
