The new cardie-cape

Meet the new cardie-cape. It picks up where autumn/winter's capes leave off, providing a lightweight cover-up to throw over spring/summer's dresses and vest tops.

A fine cotton knit with chiffon panels, it's part cardie, part cape thanks to popper fastenings under each arm that create batwing sleeves of sorts. I love the ditsy floral print of the chiffon – it works this season's romantic floral trend, while the pale nude and circular shape of the cardie-cape gently nudges the 1970s vibe, too.

It looks oh-so cute over my new white lace dress below (yet another French Connection sale buy), but I can see it with contrasting florals, too – the more ditsy, the better! And, come summer, you'll be wanting this cardie-cape to go over your swimsuit or bikini, too.

Also available in blush-pink and dove-grey, it's just £19.99 at New Look. Sweet, eh?
