Blame it on the rain

 PHOTOGRAPHS BY KATE COX

What does one wear for this non-summer we're having? When heavy rain is predicted, open-toed shoes are off the cards and a lightweight coat is essential.

My trusty Gap parka is still serving me well. It's a wardrobe classic and Gap brings out a new one each season. There's one in there now and I recently bought a summer parka-style jacket/shirt (it's shorter, no hood) in the Gap sale.

Layering is the way to approach this erratic weather. I've been wearing my Marni for H&M shirt as a jacket over another key piece of mine, a white Gap tee.

Sam Edelman brogues have been keeping my feet dry (although I do worry that those leather soles are soaking up all that dirty rain water!) and, yes, tights in July. Wrong but necessary.

  1. I'm so glad you have commended the trustee Gap Parka!! I bought the new version a few days ago when I thought, exactly as you did, “how handy for this rotten weather we’re experiencing”. Thank you for making me feel fully justified in my new purchase!! X

  2. Weather in the UK is disgusting, no other word to describe it :( I have tons of summer clothes in my wardrobe I haven't been able to touch for about a year. Jeans and jumpers all the way :-S

Love your Marni for H&M top ! <3

Hope you've managed to wear some of your summer clothes recently. We had some nice weather. It's not always wet and miserable in the UK – promise!

    1. Thanks Katie Frank.

Think layering is the way ahead. Although open-toe or closed-toe shoes is my daily conundrum! Open-toe isn't so good when it rains, but closed-toe feels so wrong in summer!

  4. You are right - this summer has been a nightmare to dress for. I refuse to wear tights (except for nude ones) between May - October, so I have been popping on legginings underneath my summer dresses, and adding shirts over short-sleeved tops and dresses. Agree - layering for the British 'summer' is a must! xx

    1. Hi Fashion Bandit,

I'm with you there regarding tights in the summer. I find leggings a good compromise, too. In fact, I'm wearing a pair right now!

  5. Urgh - why must we still be forced to wear our coats!? Am sick of wearing my mac every day, though at least we look good in the rain : )

    1. Hi SJP,

Treat the bad weather as a good excuse to get another mac :)

There's loads of nice coats on the high street right now as the autumn/winter collections are coming in.
